The National Competitiveness Council (CNC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) presented Dominican Republic 's Competitiveness Observatory, an innovative and versatile information system aimed at providing a follow-up to the national competitive performance.

By accessing the CNC Web site ( www.observatoriocompetitividad.com.do ) users get reliable, constantly updated monitoring of the country's advances with the National Systemic Competitiveness Plan (PNCS), and can compare it with other nations.

This instrument would help the authorities, policy-makers, legislators, analysts, civil society and international agencies to be alerted to identify the country challenges on competitiveness.

CNC director Andrés Van der Horst said the Observatory "is the answer to the national deficiency in useful instruments, efficient and practical tools and systems which support the exercise of planning, execution and pursuit of competitiveness, and which standardizes our practices with the efforts made day to day everywhere in the world."

He said the initiative "shows that the country has embarked in an effective process to improve its capacity to compete," since -with the Observatory- public policy-makers "will be able to evaluate if the actions implemented are successful or not and how they must adapt the productive policies to improve competitiveness."

The PNUD said its support of the CNC is part of its efforts to increase the country's development and competitive performance.
