U.S. buyers go bananas over Dominican mangoes

A business desk for the purchase of Dominican mangoes was established with 11 United States buyers during the festival Expo Mango 2008, held in the park of Baní (south).

National producers and buyers from New York , Florida and New Jersey signed the contracts, whose amounts weren't divulged, after which, the buyers visited the major mango plantations in Baní and the hydrothermal treatment plant in Moca (north).

Producers grouped in the Dominican Mango Cluster said they expect the second hydrothermal treatment plant will be built in Baní to spur exports as announced in 2007.

"Expo Mango 2008" took place this weekend and visitors tasted diverse varieties grown in the Dominican Republic and bought plants.
