Dominican Republic bets on wind energy

The Dominican ministry of Environment awarded licenses for the construction of three wind parks that could produce up to 190MW of energy.

According to Environmental Minister Omar Ramirez, the parks will be built in Bani, Oviedo and Montecristi. The Dominican Republic , he added, is the third country in the region and seventh in the world to take part in the Clean Development Mechanism project.

There are already specific cases of companies in Santo Domingo which have installed this system, based on the recently passed Renewable Energy Development Incentive Law and which will prompt many Dominicans to invest to produce this type of electricity, as costs are significantly lower .
